In a city where a long drought has left water more precious than gold, private toilets have been banned. A single corporation controls every public restroom and charges steep fees for its use. Those who cannot pay, or who relieve themselves anywhere outside its facilities, are seized and sent away to a place called Urinetown. When a company employee's father is taken by this system, Bobby Strong takes up the cause and urges the crowd to win back the right to relieve themselves. The story is a comedic tale of greed, corruption, romance, and rebellion, where ordinary people discover that a revolution can carry unexpected costs.
