Stand-Off at Standing Rock

Sitting Bull remained a staunch advocate for his people and their way of life in the face of changes he could not control. One architect of those changes was James McLaughlin, a young Indian Agent sent to Indian reservations to insure that any signs of unrest were squashed and that the Indians were being "civilized" by whatever means necessary. Told in alternating chapters, this dual biography shows how sometimes our place in history is decided by the ordinary choices we make in our lives.
