In the middle of a barren desert, Sanzo lies dying from poison, and Goku is frantic to find a cure before it is too late. A chance meeting with Kougaiji offers one slim hope, but the only route to a remedy requires defeating him. Winning that fight could save Sanzo, yet the cost might be Goku's own sanity. Caught between loyalty and the danger of what he might lose, Goku must decide how far he is willing to go. The volume ends on a sharp dilemma: a rescue that saves one friend might destroy the other.
