Immediately after Hurricane Katrina blew through New Orleans, the staff, patients and family members at Tulane University Hospital and Clinic assumed they had come through the storm fine. But on Monday night, August 29,2005 the city of New Orleans flooded and by next morning the complex was surrounded by water. Here is the story of how Tulane University Hospital and its parent company, HCA, successfully and safely evacuated at least 1,200 people including dozens of patients in critical condition.
