Retro action and adventure story set in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas. Ravaged by PTSD caused by his infantry tour in Vietnam, Tom Logan has become progressively unable to function. When his much younger half-brother goes missing, he pulls himself out of his malaise long enough to go searching for him. He meets police officer/poet Amber Armstrong who agrees to help, and they soon begin a torrid love affair. In the tiny town of Turkey Gap, in the foothills of the Ouachitas, Tom meets John Stewart and his granddaughter Mary Ann. The young woman takes him into the mountains in search of clues. When Amber joins them, they are faced with other problems: Tom's recurrent nightmares, a hell-raising biker gang, a local millionaire industrialist that's polluting the countryside and illegally strip-cutting National Forest land. And there are also two murderous mountain hermits that kill for pleasure. Their search takes them on mules down a narrow trail into a deeply-incised valley...
