Iqtida al-Sirat al-Mustaqim by Ibn Taymiyya is a long treatise in Arabic on how Muslims should keep their distance from customs associated with unbelievers. Its title, roughly "The Straight Path Demands Opposing the Companions of Hellfire," frames the argument: the author contends that imitating the rituals, festivals and social habits of non-Muslim communities can weaken a believer's faith, so Islamic law calls for distinct practice in worship and daily life. He draws on the Quran, the sayings attributed to the Prophet, the practice of the early generations, and legal reasoning to support this position. The work is one of the best-known writings of the fourteenth-century scholar and is still widely read in Islamic circles, especially by those interested in creed and jurisprudence. It is a demanding read, dense with quotation and argument, and is aimed at readers already comfortable with classical scholarship. Its ideas remain debated, which is part of its lasting interest.
