The Illustrated Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Arthur Dent wakes one morning to find that his house is about to be knocked down to make way for a new road. Before he can make any real protest, his friend Ford Prefect reveals that he is not an ordinary local at all but an alien researcher for a galactic guidebook. Ford also reveals that the whole Earth is about to be destroyed to clear space for an interstellar highway. The two of them escape just in time and find themselves drifting through space with almost no means of survival. Ford's book, which holds an entry on nearly everything, becomes their unlikely companion. The galaxy turns out to be far stranger, sillier and more bewildering than Arthur ever imagined.
