Survivors of a zombie outbreak continue their struggle to stay alive in a world now run by the dead. This volume follows Rick Grimes and his companions as they cope with the aftermath of a violent prison attack. The group briefly finds a measure of safety in a community that seems to offer shelter, but that hope is soon shattered by a new wave of devastation. Each setback forces them to confront what they are willing to do to endure. Bound together by necessity, the characters learn that merely surviving is no longer enough, and that they must find a reason to build a life again among the ruins.
