From this starting point, Hahn examines some of the most basic words of Christianity to recover what the inspired authors, the apostolic preachers and their first listeners understood by them. He argues that this reading changes how we approach Scripture.
The book then draws lessons for believers today, particularly as the Church pursues renewed evangelization. It shows how the written word and the sacrament of the altar belong together, and why Catholics practice their faith as they do.
