Launched in 2003, this comic follows a group of survivors after civilization has collapsed and the dead walk. Rick Grimes, once a police officer, is a husband and father who finds himself leading a small, shifting band of people trying to build a future in a world that seems to have none. Zombies appear throughout, yet the story is about more than the undead; it asks what it means to keep living, and whether that is still possible among so many dead. This collection gathers the first forty-eight issues, the opening four years of the story, into one volume, bringing together the first eight earlier volumes in a single large edition.
