When Savannah's horse disappears, her klepto cat Rags is devastated and determined to help. Savannah and her friends search for the missing animal on horseback across rough, thickly wooded country, where they find few leads. Their path brings them to Elsie, an odd older woman who lives in very primitive conditions and is hiding secrets. Some of those secrets may help them find the horse, but only once Rags gets involved and Detective Craig Sledge joins the investigation. The story mixes sweetness and menace, with plenty of twists and adventure.
