With crushing news from the doctor, Paige is thrown off of her life plan and into what the universe has in store for her whether she's ready or not. She's lived her life with optimism and vigor, but now it's clear that no amount of positive thought or being good matters in the long run. There's no reward for doing the right thing all along.

With her diagnosis, her relationship with Trent suddenly changes. Family visits, decisions about the future, and what they mean to each other are thrown at them one after the other. Paige knows one thing: Trent matters. She wants him by her side through all of this, but she's worried he might turn and run when he realizes the truth of her situation.

When Trent does just the opposite, Paige is buoyed. But it's short lived. She has to put all of her energy into fighting this disease, to finding a cure when the doctors have given up, to living her life on her terms, not those of her weakening body.

She just has to decide what her terms are while holding Trent close with both hands.
