Cover of Shelter

Shelter

When Maggie Hansen runs out of gas during a snowstorm, she ends up in Mattawooptock, a small town in Maine she has never heard of. She had set out after praying for rescue and hearing an instruction to leave, and the journey leads her to a church with an unusual bathroom. Open Door Church has long offered shelter to people without homes, but when its pastor dies suddenly, Galen and Maggie must keep the work going while newcomers push against it. A young man named Daniel seems to be doing remarkable things among them. In the third story, Galen is stretched thin: a man wanted for killing a police officer is hiding in the church, money is running out, and the pastor is exhausted. The stories follow characters who try to love the way Jesus did, whatever their circumstances.
