Sarah Sharpe was raised by her father, a carpenter, and has spent her twenty-one years learning the hard, physical work of the job. Her mother left when she was a baby, so Sarah has never felt she needed more than a hammer and a crew. Then a cutting remark about her masculine look sends her searching for who she really is. On her first volunteer project with Homes for Hope, she meets Jesse Chapman, a cheerful roofer who is her complete opposite: outgoing, easygoing and content. He keeps seeking her company, though he has made clear they can only be friends. Sometimes, though, that line blurs, and Sarah's confusion grows. As she tries to define herself beyond clothes and makeup, she has to decide how far she is willing to go to find out who she truly is.
