The King James Bible

The King James Version is the English Bible completed in 1611, commissioned by King James I and produced by a large group of scholars working under the Church of England. It gathers the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian New Testament into one volume, and its wording shaped the language of worship, literature and everyday speech for centuries. Known for its distinctive phrasing, the translation has been read in churches, schools and homes across the English-speaking world. Many editions also include the books of the Apocrypha, which appear between the two testaments.
