Two cases reach him differently. In the other, he is drawn into the troubles of a Chinese family caught up in cocaine smuggling and a diamond theft linked to a feared criminal society. Working alongside detectives and federal agents, he tries to free them while his own recovery, including his stormy early encounters with a twelve-step program, is tested at every turn.
