Spinster

Clare, recently abandoned at the altar and fearing she will be left on the shelf for good, retreats to a rural property that has passed to her from her grandmother. Her plans for quiet solitude are disrupted when she meets the neighbouring landowner, a man whose refined speech and schooling don't match the labouring-class position he seems to occupy. As the two grow closer, Clare begins to suspect that Meriweather Holcroft hides a far more complicated past than his modest surroundings suggest.
