The first book in a gritty crime trilogy set in Manchester explores what loyalty means when danger closes in. Siblings Peter and Adele Robinson grow up in a home ruled by a violent, drunken father and a mother too frightened to protect them. Their childhood seems to point toward a life of crime. Adele, though, works hard at school and, encouraged by her grandmother Joyce, builds a respectable future for herself. Peter sinks deeper into the world of gangs, and the close bond between the two begins to fray. Then one terrible night forces Adele to face the violence of her past, and she has only one person to turn to.
