Batgirl #1

For five decades, the Batgirl identity has stood for courage and independence in the world of Batman's allies. This collection assembles the high points and painful moments from the many women who have taken up the mask. Readers meet early heroes from the character's beginnings, as well as later wearers who range from a quiet librarian to a silent assassin to a teenage vigilante. Stories from several creative teams bring the character forward into modern times, showing how each Batgirl has left a lasting mark on the wider superhero universe. It makes a fine introduction for anyone new to the character.
