This introductory textbook covers the principles of genetics for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Its strength is its focus on how genetic knowledge is put to use, especially in farming and medicine, rather than on abstract theory alone. The chapters address the mechanics of the cell, how genetic material is copied, mapping chromosomes, how genes are expressed, mutation, and newer laboratory methods such as gene cloning and blotting techniques for studying DNA, RNA and proteins. Immune control and cell division are also discussed, alongside genetic engineering.
