This is the account of Parley P. Pratt, one of the earliest leaders of the Latter Day Saints, written to record his life. He begins with his boyhood on the American frontier in the early 1800s, when the young nation was expanding west amid hardship and uncertainty. As a young man he searched for religious truth, first among the Baptists, before being drawn to the teachings of Joseph Smith. Pratt then describes the years of work that followed: preaching and missionary journeys through New York, Canada, Britain and South America, and the writing that carried his message to readers. The memoir offers a personal record of the faith's early growth, told from the inside.
